WHY DONATE?

Streetwise is a City Centre based young people’s project in Newcastle upon Tyne. For the past 12 years we have been providing services for vulnerable and marginalised young people from across the City and the region. We operate on an open access drop–in basis, reaching over 10,000 young people last year. We are often the first and the last point of call for young people.

Streetwise offers a diverse but complementary range of services. The development of these services has originated from a direct demand for high quality and professional services that both target and meet the needs of the young people accessing them. The focus of our work lies within three key areas, young people’s sexual health, mental health and drug and alcohol misuse. These three areas of work operate in conjunction with each other, alongside this provision we offer advice and information on housing, debt, benefits and careers/training.

STILL NOT SURE WHY YOU SHOULD DONATE?

We are very popular with young people and well used as a resource, over 75% of our clients have been referred via a friend's recommendation. Young people like to access us because we are confidential, friendly, operate a drop–in, provide a safe space, react to their needs and offer quality young people focused services. Historically Streetwise has taken medical based models of service provision and re-designed the delivery of these to both meet the needs of young people and to increase the uptake of this provision amongst 11 – 25 yrs.

Currently we offer sexual health and contraceptive services (including C-card – condom distribution service), a comprehensive counselling service, offering over 40 sessions per week to young people, (targets work with under 18's – self-harm, abuse, domestic violence, eating disorders), drug and alcohol services (including prescribing) and a daily information and advice drop-in – housing, benefits and debt (including a young people's phone line).
